A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to rest — and poverty will come on you like a thief and scarcity like an armed man.
Even though we may be tempted to sleep in late, especially on a Monday, it’s time to rise and shine for another week of work. Laziness may sound good now but you’ll pay for it later. Whether we work outside of the home or not, or are a stay at home parent, we need to do our work diligently and for the glory of the Lord.
I urge you first of all, to pray for all people. Ask God to help them, intercede on their behalf, and give thanks for them.
Take time to pray for your family, your friends, your co-workers, your neighbors and while you’re at it, pray for your enemies as well. We don’t always know what they are going through but one thing is for sure, they can always use our prayers.
Pay careful attention to your own work, for then you will get the satisfaction of a job well done, and you won’t need to compare yourself to anyone else.
Don’t fall into the trap of comparing yourself to anyone else. God created you and you are unique. If you are comparing yourself to someone who is doing better than you, you could fall into the sin of envy. If you are comparing yourself to someone who is worse off than you, you could fall into the sin of pride. God wants you to be the best you can be by following Christ’s example. Live your life according to God’s Word and you will do well.
And when he saw their faith, he said “Man your sins are forgiven you.”
If you read the story of the man who was paralyzed and whose friends lifted him to the roof and lowered him down so Jesus could heal him, you’ll see that the man wasn’t healed because of his own faith, but because of the faith of his friends.
You may know someone who is going through something so difficult it is beginning to weaken their faith in God. You might not know what you can do to help. That’s where your faith comes in to play. You need to be the bridge to God by praying and interceding for your family and friends.
May the favor of the Lord our God rest on us; establish the work of our hands for us — yes, establish the work of our hands.
Ask God to bless the work of your hands so that you may be fruitful and productive. Ask him to help you enjoy your work so you can see him glorified in all aspects of your job. And when your work is demanding, pray for strength and a good attitude.
