Treasures in Heaven

1 12-26 1 Matthew 6 19-21

Verse of the Day:  Matthew 6:19-21

Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

There’s nothing wrong with having nice things, the problem is idolizing material things over treasuring what we have in Christ. It’s more important to focus on eternal things which are more valuable than anything here on earth that are only temporary. Using our money, gifts and talents for God’s purpose should be a priority in the coming year.

We Three Kings

1 12-22 1 Matthew 2 11.jpg

Verse of the Day:  Matthew 2:11

And going into the house, they saw the child with Mary his mother, and they fell down and worshiped him. Then, opening their treasures, they offered him gifts, gold and frankincense and myrrh.

The magi had followed the star to Jerusalem where they asked, “Where is the one who has been born king of the Jews?”  Upon finding Jesus they fell down and worshiped Him bestowing honor to Him, acknowledging Him as King. After they worshiped Him they presented their gifts.  The three gifts had spiritual meaning, first gold, a gift for royalty, which represents His Kingship. Second, frankincense, a symbol of his priestly role and mediator between God and man. And finally, myrrh which is a burial ointment because Jesus would die for our salvation.

Beautiful Star of Bethlehem

1 12-21 1 Matthew 2 2.jpg

Verse of the Day:  Matthew 2:2

Where is the one who has been born King of the Jews? We saw His star in the East and have come to worship Him.

The long awaited sign that the Savior had been born finally appeared in the night sky.  They magi knew that the King of the Jews had been born and the prophecy fulfilled. (A star will rise from Jacob; a scepter will emerge from Israel. Numbers 24:17) The message of the star is the good news that Jesus Christ the Messiah has come to pay for our sins so that we might have our relationship with God restored.

Good Gifts from Your Heavenly Father

1 12-8 1 Matthew 7 11

Verse of the Day:  Matthew 7:11

So if you sinful people know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give good gifts to those who ask him. (NLT)

Doesn’t it make you feel wonderful to know you have given your children what they’ve asked for on their Christmas list? Now, think about how much more your heavenly Father also wants to give you good gifts. God loves you and it makes Him happy to bless you with the desires of your heart. God already knows what you need before you ask, if you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer.

Kindness and Charity

1 12-5 1 Matthew 25 40.jpg

Verse of the Day:  Matthew 25:40

“The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’

Practice acts of kindness and charity not because of who they are but because of who you are, a child of God.  Share God’s goodness with those in need.  Do what you can as often as you can for as many as you can.

Christmas is For-Giving

1 12-3 1.jpg

Verse of the Day:  Matthew 6:14-15

For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you.  But if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.

We have all made mistakes, none of us are perfect. There are times we need to ask for forgiveness and there are times we need to forgive. How can you come to God asking forgiveness when you yourself have not forgiven?  When you hold on to blame and offenses it creates an environment of bitterness in your heart. Let go of the anger and give the gift of forgiveness not only for the offender but for yourself as well.
