For I desired mercy, and not sacrifice; and the knowledge of God more than burnt offerings.
Rituals and sacrifices have their place in organized religion but God is more pleased with love and compassion. More than anything God wants you to know Him on a personal level and wants you to love and trust Him with all your heart. He wants to have an intimate relationship with you and He wants you to draw closer to Him.
And this is eternal life that they may know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent.
Do you know the Lord? Knowing who He is, is not enough. Our goal in life should be to know Christ by having a deep and personal relationship with Him. We need to make this our priority if we want to spend eternity in the presence of the Lord.
For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands.
A soul on fire for Jesus is a heart that has moved from knowing who God is to having a personal relationship with God. It’s a soul that’s passionate about sharing the Word of God and the love of God with hurting people. Be sure to keep your flame fanned by using the gifts God has given you to help bring salvation and hope to the lost.
May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.
Without hope we feel helpless, alone and powerless. But our God is the source of all hope. Hope for healing, hope for peace, hope for joy. All hope comes from knowing, believing and trusting God and by His grace and the power of the Holy Spirit, He has given us the precious gift of hope. If you feel hopeless, seek a relationship with the author of all hope, God Almighty.
I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ.
Like Paul prayed for the believers in Ephesus, we need to pray for our friends and family, our enemies, and the world. We need to pray that they would invite Jesus into their lives so they may experience His infinite love first hand and have a personal relationship with Him. We also need to pray that they would come to truly know Him, His grace, glory and how much He really loves them.
This is what the Lord says: “Let not the wise boast of their wisdom or the strong boast of their strength or the rich boast of their riches, but let the one who boasts boast about this: that they have the understanding to know me, that I am the Lord, who exercises kindness, justice and righteousness on earth, for in these I delight,” declares the Lord.
Your true wisdom and value is not found in your own understanding, power, or riches. It is found in knowing God and in salvation. I cannot boast about anything I have but I can boast about knowing the Lord. I can boast about His kindness, justice, and righteousness. Everything I have and everything I am is because of Him and because of His unfailing love and mercy. If you’re going to brag about something, brag about Jesus.
And those who know your name put their trust in you, for you O Lord, have not forsaken those who seek you.
The only way to know God is to seek Him with all of your heart. Spend time with Him in prayer, read the Holy Bible, really make an effort to understand who He is. The more you seek God in faith, the more you will come to know Him, the more you know Him, the more you will trust Him. When you experience God’s love, grace and mercy for yourself, you will come to completely trust in Him and realize that He will never abandon you.
